Blood Sample Evaluations

After a complete physical examination, a blood sample is taken and evaluated either in the clinic or at an outside lab.

Two different blood sample evaluations are performed:

  1. Complete blood cell count (CBC):
Evaluates Red Blood Cells (RBC) to check for anemia, White Blood Cells (WBC) to check for infections and platelet count to check for adequate clotting of blood.
  2. Serum Chemistry Profile:
Measures the enzymes in the blood to determine the health of the patient’s liver and kidneys. These organs are important indicators of a patient’s ability to recover from anesthesia and surgery.
